Northern Contaminants and Global POPs Program

ICC continues to play an active role in implementing and monitoring the effectiveness of the 2001 Stockholm Convention a global agreement to reduce and, where possible, eliminate emissions of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). ICC was present as a member of the Canadian Delegation to the Seventh Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee. ICC contributed $1,000.00 to the POPs Fund as a sign of good faith and challenge to industry. In March 2003, ICC launched the publication Northern Lights Combating Toxic Threats at the Top of the World. Edited by Terry Fenge and David Downie (of Columbia University) and published for ICC (Canada) by McGill-Queen’s University Press, the book is the most comprehensive description of the events leading to the signing of the Stockholm Convention. Sheila wrote a compelling chapter, which concludes the story.
