Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) to Hold 14th General Assembly Virtually in 2022

November 16, 2021 – Anchorage, Alaska – On November 15, 2021, the ICC Executive Council held a virtual Special Meeting to discuss and decide upon the format of the 14th ICC General Assembly in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Each country office carried out a full review of the two options, following which the ICC Executive Council decided by consensus that the 2022 ICC General Assembly will be held through a virtual format in July 2022 to both transition leadership and adopt an ICC Declaration.

ICC hopes to hold an in-person meeting in Ilulissat, Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland) in the summer of 2023 which will include political discussions as well as cultural performances, and any other business that emerges in the interim.

The Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) is an Indigenous Peoples’ Organization (IPO), founded in 1977 to promote and celebrate the unity of 180,000 Inuit from Alaska (USA), Canada, Greenland, and Chukotka (Russia). ICC works to promote Inuit rights, safeguard the Arctic environment, and protect and promote the Inuit way of life. In regard to climate change, we believe that it is crucial for world leaders and governments to recognize, respect and fully implement the human rights of Inuit and all other Indigenous peoples across the globe.
